About Drive-Away Service
Q: What is a vehicle drive-away service?
A: A vehicle drive-away service — sometimes called a drive-away company or driver-on-demand service — provides professional drivers who operate client-owned vehicles from one location to another. Unlike traditional auto transport, which loads vehicles onto trailers, a drive-away service puts a licensed, insured driver behind the wheel of your actual vehicle. It's faster, more flexible, and ideal for moves within a driving distance that don't require a trailer.
Q: What is the difference between drive-away service and car shipping?
A: Car shipping typically involves loading your vehicle onto an enclosed or open trailer and transporting it — often used for long-distance or cross-country moves. Drive-away service involves a professional driver operating your vehicle on public roads to its destination. Drive-away is faster, less expensive for shorter distances, and more practical for the types of moves ZIPDRIVE handles — dealer trades, fleet repositioning, consumer pickups, and local deliveries within Central Ohio.
Q: Who uses drive-away services?
A: Car dealerships use drive-away services for dealer trades, auction runs, and multi-point inventory moves. Rental car companies and fleet operators use them for repositioning and recovery. Service centers use them to pick up and return customer vehicles. Individual customers use them when they need a car taken to the shop, returned from the airport, delivered after purchase, or moved to a new address.
Pricing & Booking
Q: How much does ZIPDRIVE charge?
A: ZIPDRIVE charges a flat rate per vehicle move based on the route and vehicle type. Residential moves in the Columbus area start at $65. Business and fleet moves are quoted based on the specific route. You always receive your rate before we dispatch — there are no meters, no variable pricing, and no surprise fees.
Q: How do I book a move?
A: Call or text 855-ZIP-OHIO with your pickup location, destination, and the vehicle details. We'll confirm availability and provide your flat rate quote. You can also book select services online through our booking calendar on this website.
Q: Do you require a contract or monthly commitment?
A: No. ZIPDRIVE operates on a per-move basis. There are no retainers, no monthly minimums, and no long-term contracts required. Business clients can establish a standing relationship for recurring work, but there is no obligation.
Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: Contact us at 855-ZIP-OHIO to discuss payment options for your account type.
Insurance & Safety
Q: Is my vehicle insured while ZIPDRIVE is driving it?
A: Yes. ZIPDRIVE carries primary commercial auto liability coverage on every vehicle we operate. Our coverage responds first in the event of an incident — your personal or business auto policy stays in excess. Before any move, our driver documents the vehicle's pre-existing condition so any prior damage is on record.
Q: Can I see your Certificate of Insurance?
A: Yes. ZIPDRIVE can provide a Certificate of Insurance upon request. Business clients can request to be named as an Additional Insured. Contact us at 855-ZIP-OHIO or czipfel@zipdriveservices.com.
Q: How are your drivers screened?
A: All ZIPDRIVE drivers undergo a motor vehicle record (MVR) check before being approved to operate client vehicles. We verify driving history and maintain a clean driver standard across our team. We do not use unscreened gig workers.
Q: What happens if there's an incident during the move?
A: ZIPDRIVE's commercial auto liability coverage handles claims arising from the operation of a vehicle by our drivers during a service. We notify the client in writing within 24 hours of any incident and work with our carrier to resolve the claim. Our pre-move vehicle inspection documents pre-existing conditions to protect all parties.
